Pictorialists put gauze and grease over the lens so a photograph would behave like a painting. The mechanism here is the same, done in the develop panel. Dehaze goes negative, clarity and texture go negative, the blacks lift into a veil, and the highlights are allowed to spread into one another. Veiled Bloom does all of it at once, and the image reads as breathed on.

Veils are the diffusion itself. Muslin Screen eases contrast the way a screen would. Gauze Curtain removes micro-contrast on every control. Breathed Glass opens the shadows until the darkest corner still holds colour. Smoke Garden is the deepest negative dehaze in the folio, and Tender Distance narrows the range from both ends. Fields are for the outside: Hazed Meadow puts the atmosphere back, Powdered Sky turns blue to powder, Faint Willow and Feathered Bough let foliage become a tone and leaf edges dissolve into their branch, Blurred Orchard draws the corners down around a soft centre.

Light is the warmth. Drifting Light and Lantern Mist set a warm top against a cold base, meeting mid-scale and kept quiet. Dusted Halo lifts the highlights rather than protecting them, which is where the bloom comes from. Silken Air warms the whole scale into the upper middle. Diffused Noon was built for light that was too hard. Bloomed Edge is the painterly one, a heavy vignette against a lifted centre.

Why I Make These

I am Netzah Elad Topaz. I take photographs and I build software, and the two keep leading me back to the same problem. You were there. The light was doing something you will not see again. Then the photo comes back flat, and it is not what you were looking at.

Closing that gap is the whole job. Every preset here is built from Adobe defaults by hand, with a written note for what it should do to a picture, and it is judged on real photographs before it ships. Nothing is a filter dropped on top of your work.

What I want is simple. You open a photo you almost gave up on, you tap once, and there it is: the day you remember, not the file your camera handed you. That is worth doing properly.

Asked and Answered

Will it look out of focus?

It will look soft, which is different. Focus is untouched; what goes is micro-contrast and the hard black. Veiled Bloom and Smoke Garden are the strongest, Silken Air and Diffused Noon keep more edge if you want to stay closer to a photograph.

Is there one for portraits?

Muslin Screen and Gauze Curtain are the portrait veils, and Drifting Light adds the warm over cold. On skin they read as a diffusion filter, not a blur.

Do these work in the free Lightroom app?

Yes. Import the .xmp files in the free Lightroom app on iPhone or Android, no subscription needed. They also work in Lightroom Classic and Lightroom on desktop.
